With a return to rugby now a reality and the launch the new Colts Development Programme on the horizon, we talk with an optimistic Cam Cowell on his thoughts about returning to the Big Field at Dorking Rugby as it celebrates its centenary.

So, how are you feeling about kick-starting the new Colts Development Programme?

C: "I’m excited to be joining Dorking and supporting this programme going forward. This year we’ll will have a new state of art gym to support the physical development of players off the pitch with Dan and focus on more position specific development. I’m looking forward to working with Tom (Bristow) to help develop these young players to improve their knowledge and teach them to be able to make decision as a team and as an individual. The main aim for us is to push as many of those 2nd year Colts players into the senior squad and keep them enjoying rugby!"

And how are you feeling about the return to Dorking and playing after the enforced 20/21 break?

C: "As a senior squad we are looking to have a very exciting team this up and coming year! We had a very good squad last year but didn’t manage to get on the pitch obviously due to COVID-19. This year I do think we have a better team coming into this season, which I think it’s thanks to Armand and Dorking for having such an appeal to other players outside the group.

Having a season off has given some of the lads who have had serious injuries (Cameron Pimlow and Mr Dorking himself - Nobes) the opportunity to be back fit and ready to go. That’s down to a combination of their own hard work and that of the physios that have done everything to get them ready after the surgery they needed to be back for the 2021/22 season!

I can tell you one thing I am excited for this squad for next year and if all working together could do some great things!”
