Under 10’s Twickenham Trip

The U10’s 2022 /2023 season has been a great one! Very successful in the festivals regularly putting out 3 or 4 very competitive squads, the age groups first ever tour to Jersey was enjoyed by kids and parent in equal measures  (see article from Gareth). The season cumulated in an invitation to play at Twickenham in a pre-match tournament on the ground ahead of Quins big Summer kick off game against Bath. This amazing opportunity provided the 26 kids (and coaches) an experience of a lifetime playing at Twickenham, not only playing on the hallowed turf but with a backing soundtrack of the Kaiser Chiefs warming up for their show.

One of our U10’s  and budding writer Hamish Muir stepped forward and kindly offered to write up his perspective on the Trip…….

"In February we were invited to take part in the Big Summer Kick Off at Twickenham.

Lots of children wanted to do it, it was a very popular trip.

We were set to play against Bath supporting clubs.

63 people travelled to Twickenham. There were two buses, a big one and a little one. The big Bus was late to the big field.

When we got there to Twickenham, we rushed onto the pitch with seconds to spare.

It was touch-rugby, everybody was upset and didn’t understand why it was touch. But we played three games and were unbeaten.

The Kaiser Chiefs played us onto the pitch. They are a very famous rock band.

At half time we did a lap of honour around the pitch. Tristan was our leader. We were all very smiley.

The atmosphere was happy, the fans were hyped but sadly Quins weren’t as good in defence as Dorking U 10’s!

We went home on the bus tired but happy.

We all slept well ready for Dorking Mini’s Tournament on the Sunday.

Thanks to Quins, Dorking RFC and all the U10 coaches for making it happen and a particular thanks to Jessica Freeman for all her help organising and chaperoning on the day and thanks to Lynn Adams for all her help organising things in the background. We are going to have to spend the summer with our thinking caps on to ensure the 2023/ 2024 season lives up to this year!!
