Jersey 0–24 Dorking

Dorking Secure Bonus-Point Victory on the Road

Dorking made a fast start away at Jersey, immediately putting the home side under pressure. Rachel Higgins looked dangerous early on, almost breaking through before Lauren Parsons made an interception to disrupt the attack.

Despite Dorking’s promising start, uncharacteristic handling errors began to creep into their game. The visitors continued to threaten, but Jersey’s defence stood firm, turning Dorking over on the try line to deny them an early score by lucia with a flamboyant touch down.

Jersey looked to hit back on the counterattack, but Rachel Higgins produced an excellent tackle to halt their progress, with the ball subsequently held up. Another promising Jersey break was brought to an end when the ball was forced into touch.

Dorking continued to battle hard, with a high tackle on Esme offering a potential opportunity, but a dropped ball over the line summed up a frustrating first half. Despite plenty of endeavour from both sides, neither team managed to get on the scoreboard before a break sent Steph over scoring.

Half-time: Jersey 0-10 Dorking

The second half began in scrappy fashion, with handling errors continuing to disrupt the flow of the game. Both sides struggled to build sustained phases, but Dorking kept working hard to gain territory and find a breakthrough.

A strong run from Rachel Higgins threatened to open up the Jersey defence, although a knock-on brought the attack to an end. Hannah Johnson then showed excellent strength with a superb hand-off as Dorking continued to search for the opening try.

The breakthrough finally came through Jayne Meadows, with Rachel Higgins adding the conversion to give Dorking a 0-14 lead.

Dorking began to find their rhythm, combining determined defence with some strong attacking play. Hannah Johnson put in a big tackle, although Jersey managed to get an offload away and continued to compete.

A late tackle on a Jersey player resulted in a penalty, but Dorking soon regained ground through an excellent kick from Hannah Johnson. The ball bounced off a Jersey player and into touch, giving the visitors a valuable lineout and another opportunity to attack.

Dorking made the most of their pressure when Rachel Higgins crossed for the bonus-point try. She then calmly added the conversion to extend the lead to 24 points.

With the game entering its closing stages, Dorking continued to push forward. A penalty gave them another opportunity to run the ball, while a huge kick from Jane Hannah narrowly missed its intended target but gained valuable territory.

Despite the scrappy nature of the contest and the handling errors that plagued both sides, Dorking had done enough to secure an impressive away victory, keeping Jersey scoreless and returning home with a valuable bonus point.
