MATCH REPORT – FRIENDLY

DORKING U14 GIRLS v HARLEQUINS AMATEURS U14 GIRLS

After winning their Waterfall Cup match in comprehensive fashion last week, the Dorking U14 Girls headed to Bushey Park for a friendly with Quins Ams.

Quins were keen to engage in some joint training first which meant our game time was reduced to circa 30 mins. We also lent them a couple of players so we could play 12 a side. Huge thanks to Bella and Livvy who volunteered.

The Dorking Girls went on the attack straight from the kick off and kept that mentality all game. They constantly probed Quins defence with either crash ball or darting runs and followed up well with strong rucking to keep the ball. Good interplay between the backs and forwards, plus some great attacks down the wings resulted in Siena, Zoe and Millie getting over the line to score. Amalie added the extras on the final try.

Quins never gave up and used their superior size to occasionally turn the ball over and make strong breaks of their own. The Dorking Girls were having none of it however and although we seemed to have forgotten the earlier drills re defensive line (!) they put the tackles in to stem the attack.

Final score was Quins Ams 0 – 17 Dorking. Great to see commitment from the whole Dorking squad and their growing confidence in their abilities. Poppy, Evie, Sevi and Flo all had some great runs with ball in hand, as did fly half Siena. Ella at scrum half gave quick ball from the rucks and our power houses of Amalie, Sophie, Phoebe and Millie made good ground. Chloe and Zoe both tackled like tigers and Bella and Livvy made right nuisances of themselves against their club mates, very often leading the Quins’ defence! A great effort all round, and not a single “But they’re all much bigger than us”!!
