The Christmas Dinner this year was replaced with our centenary ball held at Denbies Wine Estate. With years of planning by so many, the day finally arrived.

Over 300 guests both young and old turned up at the majestical Denbies, which was fully lit up in the evening’s misty rain, ready to embrace what was to be a fabulous event!

The attendance list was one to note, with players present who represented the Club in every decade since the 1950’s all the way to the current squad. Many ex-committee members and supporters were there in full attendance too. Most importantly, the partners of those who have given so much to the club by supporting their sporting past time, were there and all looking fabulous.

The evening started with the guests gathering in the reception area for a glass of bubbly and a quick catch up. The curtains were then pulled back, revealing a beautifully presented dining area ready for some festive and celebratory diners.

Pre-ordered drinks and starters awaited at the tables with some very subtle Christmas music playing in the background. The building blocks for an incredible evening was certainly laid.

Club Chairman, Shaun Hammond, opened proceedings with a very warm welcome to all the guests and thanked those who have played a part in the clubs history, from days gone by, all the way to present time.

Mains where served and raffle tickets were sold, before Trustee Chairman, Jim Evans, started what was a fabulous auction with three items of significant meaning to DRFC. These where quickly snapped up and in proper Dorking fashion concluded with a 300 strong rendition of “With a Cock on my breast” much to the amusement of a few special guests.

Following this, dessert was presented and the band started warming up. Everyone’s excitement to let loose for the first time in what felt like eternity became apparent.

The bar was never free, the dancefloor always full and celebrations continued until the lights came on.

Members both young and old enjoyed the evenings delights and many good memories were made celebrating 100 years of Dorking Rugby!
