The sun shone for the U14 Girls at the Guildfordians Fesitval yesterday  afternoon.
Drawn in a pool with two unknown clubs,  our girls (who are known for being a rather diminutive squad) were slightly startled to face a massive Trojans team in their first match. Undaunted, they threw themselves into the game. Their first ever 5 person contested scrums could have gone horribly wrong given the size difference, but they had a much better position and repeatedly pushed the opposition back, winning 2 penalties.
Our 2nd game v Guildfordians was a cracker, with 2 very evenly matched teams. Being used to training on a pitch that more closely resembled the side of a mountain gave the home side a slight advantage leading to a draw.
Our 3rd game was against a very well drilled and aggressive Chesham team. We held our own and ran in a couple of tries against them but the girls were tiring by that stage. Injury and illness meant we had no subs, but they battled on regardless, adapting their game to keep the ball alive and avoid Chesham's phenomenal rucking.
The day ended with a friendly game v Cobham - played to a mix of Touch and contact rules that the girls made up as they went along amid much laughter.
All in all, a great afternoon, with our girls playing the best rugby they ever have done, consistently throughout each game. A huge improvement and one to build on.
