16's Quins Cup Final

Dorking vs Chobham

Dorking's Under 16's got to play in the Quins cup final and the winner would be crowned the best under 16's team in the region.

In what was a great game of rugby where parents from other pitches gathered to watch the fierce battle, Dorking managed to take the lead half way through the first half when Will Derbishire had a fantastic outside break to score. 7-0 to Dorking.

Dorking was playing in Chobham's half for most of the first half, but just could not score another try which was credit to Chobham’s defence.

Half Time

The second half started just as frantic as the first, with both teams now attacking with little more freedom. It was again Dorking who striked first after a very brave kick chase and defensive set, they turned over the ball and "Captain Chris" had a 30m run to the post chased by every Chobham player in sight. Great try which meant Dorking was now 14-0 up.

After a couple of penalties at the breakdown, Chobham seemed to get their mojo by kicking for the corner and executing a well organised maul. Chobham's 6ft 4 number 8 expertly converted the try from the touchline. 14-7.

It was a repeat of the first try. Penalty at the breakdown, 8 kicks to corner, Maul from the lineout and converted again by the Chobham 8. Score now 14-14.

Dorking had a fair few chances but it seemed like the tide had turned and just could not get any go forward with the forwards. Dorking lost the ball in contact then went offside at the breakdown and scored an easy penalty for Chobham. 14-17. This was followed by a very similar infringement in the middle of the park and again the Chobham 8 stepped up and kicked penalty giving Chobham a 6 point lead. 14-20.

With couple of mins left on the clock, Dorking spun the ball wide in what looked like a try scoring pass slipped out of the hands for a knock on only for the refereee to signal tha game is over.

Chobham takes the spoils 14-20

DoR Armand Roux who had gone to watch the game, commented:

"It was great to see our future in action, they played so well that it was a shame that there had to be a loser on the day.

Dorking was fit, more explosive and loved playing some attractive running rugby but unfortunately the dicipline at the breakdowns let them down and Chobham capitalised on the few opportunities the received.

It's definately not for a lack of effort, desire and enjoyment which was clearly expressed by the players representing our club. Proud moment watching these boys play, and the passion they showed during and after the game was simply amazing. It was like we lost the World cup final and that is all down to the great culture the club and the coaches has created over the years.

Results don't always define us, it how we bounce back that does that"
