ROSSLYN PARK 17 – 21 DORKING COLTS

Dorking secured a hard-fought away victory against a traditionally strong Rosslyn Park side, despite traveling with a lean squad of just 19 players. On a wide pitch where managing energy was essential to offset the home side’s superior bench numbers, Dorking showed resilience, clinical execution, and strong defensive determination to earn a well-deserved win.


FIRST HALF: DORKING TAKE CONTROL
The opening exchanges were tight and physical in the midfield. Dorking built momentum early with strong carry options and disciplined ground-gaining, while Rosslyn Park showcased serious speed out wide to make territory. After 10 to 15 minutes of hard-fought exchanges inside the Dorking 22, the visitors assumed control. Recycling the ball efficiently and displaying slick hands through the backline, Dorking’s No. 10 delivered a crisp inside ball to set Jimmy Straughan over for the opening try. Jack Haynes added the conversion to make it 0–7.

Dorking’s defense held firm through another sustained period of mid-pitch heavy contact, driving Park back and forcing turnover opportunities. Strong, direct penetration from Spike at 12 breached the defensive line, allowing quick recycle ball out to the wing. Gus Freeman then sold a lovely dummy on the wing line, sliced straight through, and touched down. Jack converted once again to extend the lead to 0–14 after 31 minutes—a lead Dorking maintained until the half-time whistle.


SECOND HALF: A GAME OF TWO HALVES
Rosslyn Park opened the second period with a concerted spell of attack, pinning Dorking near their own goal line. Dorking’s goal-line defense proved heroic, turning the home side over and kicking clear to regain field position. After another battle for midfield dominance, Dorking seized initiative once more. A sharp move off the back of a breakdown sent Jack Haynes clear to cross the line before converting his own try, pushing the scoreline to 0–21 at the 50-minute mark. The complexion of the match shifted when injuries forced a move to uncontested scrums early in the second half. This granted Rosslyn Park a stable, set-piece platform which they had lacked. This played to their strength out wide, Park’s wingers linked up with neat interpassing to finally break through and score with conversion 7-21.

With 10 minutes remaining, Park found their tailwind. A series of powerful runs through the midfield culminated in their big No. 8 breaking away, outpacing the defense to score under the posts. With the conversion missed, the gap narrowed to 12–21. In the dying moments of the match, Rosslyn Park executed a clean break right through the center, showing great pace to dot down once more and bring the score to 17–21. The final whistle sounded immediately after, sealing a tight four-point win for Dorking.
