Dorking Girls headed over to the Cobham 10's fesitaval on Sunday 22nd September 2024

U14s
The U14 girls season started brilliantly at Cobham festival on Sunday where 20 teams enjoyed a morning of 10’s rugby. We took 2 unstreamed teams and our intention was for the girls to go out and have fun and that they did! Dorking 1 played Barnes, Guildford and Hove 1 , winning 2 and losing 1. Dorking 2 played Haywards Heath/Uckfield, Quins/Teddington and Hove 2, also winning 2 and losing one. All the girls played their hearts out in some tough, very physical matches. A big step up for last year’s U12 girls. Special shout out goes to Lucy who came to Dorking in the summer through the ‘Love Rugby’ event the Girls section ran and, having never played before the summer, played her first ever competitive rugby matches and loved it! The coaches are very excited to see where this team of talented girls can progress this season!
U16s
Under 16 has a smaller squad this year, todays lineup featured 3 players new to the sport. We came up against well drilled sides featuring large numbers recently selected for surrey but the girls didnt give up and played their all to the very last minute. We won all our lineouts, again something we had never done, played some fierce relentless defence but were punished by fast powerful runners and missed tackles. Special mention goes to Sophie who captained today, even stepping into the scrum when needed, our three new players-  May who came very close to scoring twice, ellie who again on her debut took on kicking duties, and Alys who did a fantastic tap tackle. We are excited to see you develop. Everyone had fun and some really good rugby was played, giving us a lot of positives to build on for the season.
U18s
The established Dorking/Cobham cluster travelled to Cobham for the annual 10s festival. With several Dorking girls away playing for the Women, the cluster joined forces with Hove. Despite having never met or played together, the squad instantly gelled and won their first game against Chobham/Bracknell. They went on to narrowly lose against other larger and more established clusters (Wimbledon/London Irish and Battersea/Quins/Old Ruts) but fought hard and played some exceptional rugby. All left with their heads held high and a sense of achievement, and a desire to continue playing with their new- found friends!
